I had a troubling thought today.  If Bill Gates or Warren Buffet called me today to offer to mentor me, would I be ready?  Unfortunately, the answer was no.  What does that mean? I have very little time to get myself together.

What needs to be done?
1. Think like the billionaire I am.  Not everyone is qualified for the billionaires club.
2. Write like it’s my lifeline.  Actually, it is.  My new motto: Will write for food.
3. Stop planning and start working. I’m creating my to-do list now.

Mr. Buffet and Mr. Gates, I will be ready for your tutelage by the end of this month. I’m looking forward to our meeting.

Mark Victor Hansen & Robert G. Allen

Mark Victor Hansen & Robert G. Allen

I had the opportunity to meet Mark Victor Hansen & Robert G. Allen, the authors of Cash In A Flash, at a Chicago Social Media Club meeting in September 2009.

I didn’t have a lot of money on me, so I asked Mr. Hansen to gift me a book.  Do you know I received a double blessing? Not only did I get a book, Mr. Hansen told me that “we expect great things!”  What a way to be sent off with a good book!

Well, Mr. Hansen, I am working on those great things.

A Regional Conference on Green Careers, Technology and Education

Creating Green Jobs and Building A Green Economy

What is more important than the health of our children?
We have many options to reduce the risk of cancer from a healthier diet to prevention therapies. The more information we know about individual cancers, the better we can help ourselves and our children.

Community Engagement Centering on Solutions (CECOS) and Richard J. Daley College are offering you an opportunity to learn more about cervical cancer, and its threat to the women of our community. (CECOS is a program of the University of Chicago Cancer Research Center.)

Join us on Saturday, November 7 at Richard Daley College from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Dr. Rick Kittles, Associate Director for Diversity and Community Outreach, and Dr. Kenneth Alexander, noted HPV researcher and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Chicago, will help us understand the role of the human papillomavirus (HPV) in cancer and how we can protect our families and friends.

The town hall meeting will include discussion of a new vaccine that is effective in preventing cervical cancer. HPV causes more than 99% of all cervical cancers and 100% of genital warts. The vaccine is effective for the types of viruses that cause 70% of cervical cancers and 90% of genital warts.

We recognize that some people have concerns about the vaccine, and we wish to address these issues together in a thoughtful exchange of ideas.

Please come to our town hall meeting for invaluable information, lively discussion, and refreshments.

I am in the second session of my comedy writing class at The Second City Training Center. It’s pretty cool.  Not only do we get a chance to release our creative energies through sketch writing, our sketches have to be read aloud by our peers so we can get the full effect of our work.

I was able to get away with not reading aloud because there were students that really liked to act in the first session.  Now that the class sizes are smaller, there is NO hiding.  This is pulling out other things in me that I have shied away from all my life.  It’s cool.  I now have to embrace my newfound discoveries with confidence.  But, I can proudly say with confidence that my writing is STILL da bomb and it’s getting better!

I had to take my neighbors to court because the roots of their trees were destroying my sidewalk and fence.  For over three years, I asked him to cut the trees.  He said yes.  They never came down.  Finally, a few branches fell on the wires in my yard one windy day in Chicago which freaked me out because that could have been my garage.  One was a huge tree.  After that, I started putting my requests in writing.  The whole family stopped talking to me.

My first request to him, immediately after the branch incident, was to remove the tree and repair my property.  It was ignored.  I waited until late Spring 2008 to communicate further.  I offered to pay half of the tree removal along with materials to repair my sidewalk and fence if his construction company completed the work.  Yes, he has a construction company! He ignored that request.  I even tried to do mediation, and that request went ignored.  So, the only thing left to do was to seek legal counsel.

It took a minute to get that tree down.  It’s gone; I can’t complain. However, I can complain about his request: To go half on the removals, repairs, and legal expenses. Needless to say, that is not going to happen.  I just had to share the nerves of these people.

I have four ventures that I truly enjoy – The Write Design Company, Shorty blog and newsletter, and As NOT Seen on TV. I had to prioritize my ventures in order to make money.  With this newfound realization, I have been researching and learning what I need to learn to be effective at what I do, which is why I have not been posting as often as I used to. I have even fallen behind in reading my email messages!

So, my ventures have been prioritized in the following order:
1. The Write Design Company – I will be providing social media, blogging and copywriting service.  This is my bread and butter.
2. As NOT Seen on TV – I will slowly be integrating video into this blog.  This is exciting and scary.  But look out for good stuff.  This is my fun stuff.
3. Shorty Blog – I am looking to develop this blog so I can do away with the newsletter.  This is my informational resource.
4. Shorty newsletter – I’m ready to bring all of this online, and try to keep my current followers in the process.

This is just to let you know what’s going on with me.
