During my period of defining and refining my blogging ventures, I have decided to make Shorty a Chicago South Side Resource sharing information that will enrich the lives of other. Therefore, you can find information about jobs, education, health and other topics at http://goshorty.net.

There will be no profile or news stories. These pieces can be sent to N’Digo, The Independent Bulletin, Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Tribune, and other local print and online newspapers.

Please continue to follow and support me as I try to make a difference in my community. Feel free to contact me at shorty@goshorty.net if you have any questions.

Please and blessings,

Marcie Hill ~aka~ Shorty

There are going to be changes with Shorty’s blog and newsletter in the near future.  I am seriously wondering how many small business owners and organizations I’ve supported over the years would support me through ads on my site?

You must be unemployed and uninsured to qualify for a free flu shot.  A voucher needs to be obtained from the Department of Employment Security to be presented to a CVS Minute Clinic.

He is straight pimping people with the parking meters.  First of all, most meters that I’ve encountered in the community cost $1.00 per hour, which is totally ridiculous.  Then, there are time limits. The  meters by Second City Training Center have a two hour limit.  So, even if I was blessed to find a metered, I would have to leave class to feed it.

AND, to keep trying to feed meteres when it gets really cold outwould suck majorly.

I went to redeem my coupon for my free gyros at Tony’s Original Philly Steaks, and they were NOT giving out free gyros.  However, they did give away free lemonade which is a poor substitute for meat.

There were a couple people ahead of me.  The young man shared that his friends had no problems getting their free gyros from the following locations:

The Works – North Loop - 315 S. Franklin
Maxwell St. Plus – 104 W. 147th Street
P & J’s Drive In – 16303 S. Halsted

Tony’s is the ONLY location on the south side of Chicago in the city.  That really does not look good!

Can you believe that it was four years ago that Hurricane Katrina ravaged the city of New Orleans and left its mark on the Gulf Coast?  Yes, it has been and from what I heard, New Orleans is not close to being re-built which means that there are many people still are not at home.   Let us pray for those who are still “homeless” so to speak and progress toward re-building.

Recently, I learned of two organizations that offered free mammograms and pap tests in Chicago.  If you learn of any other free services in any city, please let me know, and I’ll be sure to share it.  This is crucial in a time where so many are un-insured.

Please provide the facility, date, time , city and type of services.  Thanks for your help.

Then you should attend a meeting at Carter G. Woodson Library on 9525 S. Halsted St. in Chicago.
Thursday, August 27th – 6:00pm

Receive information about what’s going on at the cemetery

To discuss the conditions that led to this tragedy and how it can be prevented in the future.

There were many warning signs – Here are just some
 Major broken sewer system that cause’s water to sits on top of graves for weeks, filling the last resting place of our loved one’s with water.
 Badly crumbed roadways, filled with large potholes, cause’s some car’s to drive over graves to get through.
 Hard to find grave’s because of no numbered markers in place to identify them.
 Headstones laying scattered about the cemetery yard.
