Music

I know I am a little late with this, but Tom Joyner and his crew have returned to Chicago on Soul 106.3 FM on Thursday, April 22, 2009.

Welcome back!

I visited several websites that greeted me with music recently, and have determined that they annoy me greatly.  I know everyone has his/her personal preference, but for me, the music should be optional.  I just wanted to share.

Tom Joyner & Crew

The Tom Joyner Morning Show (TMJS) has been snatched from Chicago’s V103 radio station.  It was disappointing to hear the news because Tom Joyner has a long history in Chicago Radio.  He also shared information relevant to the African American community that is not shared on other radio stations.  He will be missed.

The removal of  TJ and his crew is proof that no matter how good you are and no matter how much time you give to an employer, they can let you go when they want.  And there is nothing you can do about it.

You’ll be missed Tom.

I am a channel-flipper when I listen to the radio, and can honestly say that I do not appreciate the many of the words used by younger artists.  Heck, I do not appreciate their music.  The only reason why I listen to some of the crap I hear is because it tends to grow on me because it is played on sooooooooooooooo many stations.

During my struggle with the new music, I find that I am appreciating old songs that I didn’t like before.  For instance, I used to dislike Somebody’s Sleeping in My Bed by Dru Hill.  However, I am loving that song compared to Lil Weezy and all these other people with names I can’t name and words I cannot pronounce.

I Love Music

I Love Music

I did not realize how much music was a part of me.  My favorite genres are gospel, Chicago house, 80s, and R&B.  Smooth Jazz, Motown and a lot of the songs from Grey’s Anatomy move me.  I do not know the genres of the musical selection on Grey’s, but they have an awesome collection.

My friend Joy made me aware of my level of musical knowledge.  She pointed out the fact that I was able to identify nearly every song on the station we were listening to one day.  I was impressed with myself because I seriously had no clue.  Now that I am more aware, I am going to continue to do what I do and develop a greater appreciation for more genres.  I cannot promise that Rock & Roll will be one of them.  But one never knows….

Thanks Joy!

I was listening to DJ Pharris’ I’m Loving It Mix on Power 92.3 this morning.  He was mixing steppin’ jamz and threw in Luther’s Can I Take You Out – I was in house heaven AGAIN!  All I needed was at least 2 more hours of sleep and I really would have been floating. :)

I was listening to DJ Pharris’ I’m Lovin’ It mix on Power 92 yesterday morning, and he was jammin’.  I was trying to listen to the mix while working out, but it didn’t go very well.  House music just has faster beats.  I was in house music heaven for an hour.
