As Not Seen on TV

I have four ventures that I truly enjoy – The Write Design Company, Shorty blog and newsletter, and As NOT Seen on TV. I had to prioritize my ventures in order to make money.  With this newfound realization, I have been researching and learning what I need to learn to be effective at what I do, which is why I have not been posting as often as I used to. I have even fallen behind in reading my email messages!

So, my ventures have been prioritized in the following order:
1. The Write Design Company – I will be providing social media, blogging and copywriting service.  This is my bread and butter.
2. As NOT Seen on TV – I will slowly be integrating video into this blog.  This is exciting and scary.  But look out for good stuff.  This is my fun stuff.
3. Shorty Blog – I am looking to develop this blog so I can do away with the newsletter.  This is my informational resource.
4. Shorty newsletter – I’m ready to bring all of this online, and try to keep my current followers in the process.

This is just to let you know what’s going on with me.

After six weeks of writing, preparing, stressing, researching, visiting The Women’s Business Development Center in Chicago every week, sometimes two times a week, my business plan for As NOT Seen on TV has been submitted to Miller Coors for the Business Plan Writing Contest.

It was submitted last night around 11:00 p.m. I did sleep easy.  However, I called Flowers Communications today to find out if it had been received, and the person I spoke to has not gotten back to me.  I told the young man to note that I had submitted my plan on Wednesday evening, so there were not mishaps or misunderstandings.  I am  going to win!!

As I have shared many times, I have a blogging addiction.  I currently have 5 blogs- three that have history; one that is dormant; and one I just started.  However, I am really digging the concept of As NOT Seen on TV because the business plan is bringing things to light.  It’s great!

At first, I was intimidated by creating a business plan, but I am receiving a huge level of support from the counselors at The Women’s Business Development Center.  Many thanks to Meg Herman and Sylvia Winn.  Did I mention that I am writing my plan for a contest?  Yup.  I am looking forward to winning the prize and having a great business plan.  Everything is falling into place, and I thank God for providing resources.

After I finish that plan, I’ll finish The Write Design Company and then Shorty.  So much work; so few Shortys.

Check my story about African American Airline Pilots on As NOT Seen on TV.

I had to digress from my online fun to focus on work. I am currently trying to finish a new blog. It’s almost ready to go; I just have to finish some specifics. I am working on branding and planning As Not Seen on TV. I am working on a biz plan for that blog so I can get it to grow. Defining it is no joke. However, I do have enough people to care about me to help me go in the right direction.

Picture this: Shorty is going to be a journalist for As NOT Seen on TV! I’m trying to decide if I should use my character Shorty as the front person or my real self. If I use my character, I’m going to need an animator. However, I will use my own voice. Geez! Decisions! Decisions! At least I am closer to an answer than I was a last week.

I still need to define Shorty the blog. I can make it a source of news for Chicago Southside or just specialize in youth, seniors, employment and other things that will inform and enhance the community. Either way, people are going to have to pay for posting ads. I can get an online news site going and keep this one for my thoughts since I have have the tools to do both. Geez! More decisions!

As for The Write Design Company. What can I say? I need to revamp the website creation I did. It was cool, buy kinda not cool.  I’ll just have to do that later this week.  Today, I will be working on As NOT Seen on TV.  It’s going to be great!

Missie Hahn, one of the volunteer writers for As NOT Seen on TV, made me blush with the following comment.

“Marcie,
I swear you get your hands on my articles and POOF, just like that, they’re magically changed into a beautiful, inspiring story. I don’t know how you do it, but it’s amazing. Thank you for everything and all the things you are teaching me to become a better, more professional writer. You have an amazing talent and it’s a blessing to be working with you and learning from the best.”

This proves that I am good at what I do, and I am helping others get better as I do it.

This Is How I Feel

This Is How I Feel

So, let me tell you what happened.  First, the story I wrote about It Takes A Village Movie on my blog, AS NOT SEEN ON TV, was read on the radio show of Ametra Gibson-Self.  Ametra is also the writer and producer of the movie.  Essentially, I got 2 minutes of fame just by blessing someone else.  Now, if people would visit the site to read the review, and leave comments, that would be great.
Second, my friend Charles did a favor for me that has been years in the making.  It wasn’t as simple at I thought it would be, but he saw it all the way through.  I am sooooooooooooooooooooo elated.
Third, I got the Adobe Premiere Elements 4 user guide.  Now, I can start learning how to edit my videos.  That is great.  I have been using my Photoshop Elements a little and have been making progress.  I haven’t used it alot, but I’ve been working it!  I can’t wait until I sit down and play with the different filters.
I can honestly say that the favor and the Premiere guide were all according to God’s time.  The “thing” behind the favor was always hit and miss, but it finally came to a head today.  As for the editing software, God tried to save me from myself.  He knew that Photoshop and Premiere would be too much at once, so he held back on Premiere until now.
I just wanted to share.

American television leaves a lot to be desired on so many levels. No longer is it a source of wholesome entertainment. TV has become the face of moral and social decay; the promoter of stereotypes and racism; and the death of common sense. It also signifies the end of good news and positive messages as we know it. And those are only the basic channels!

Because of all of the negativity and nonsense that flows from TV screens of all sizes, As Not Seen on TV was created. This blog is destined to be the world’s largest online resource promoting positive stories, images and messages. Therefore, volunteer writers are needed to make this happen. Following are six reasons why you should volunteer to write one story per month for As Not Seen on TV.

1. As Not Seen on TV accentuates the positive. Every day we are bombarded with negativity from a variety of sources – work, communities, church, home, and especially the media. As Not Seen on TV will counter all of the negativity with positive stories about people doing great things, events held by giving organizations, and hidden treasures in our community that may not be covered by mainstream media.

2. Build your writing skills and portfolio. If you are a new to writing or think you want to write, you can submit stories to As Not Seen on TV for a test run. All stories are read and edited prior to posting so feedback will be provided. In addition, experienced writers may have a positive story and need a source on which publish. Make As Not Seen on TV your source for these stories. Don’t let your hard work go unread.

3. Keep stories short and simple. Ideally, all stories should be up to 500 words with accompanying photos or videos. However, they can be longer if necessary. Your stories should make the greatest impact with the fewest words possible.

4. Let pictures and videos tell your story. Pictures and videos are just as effective for conveying messages as words. Pull out your camcorder or camera and get to working. Just add a brief statement to explain the images or videos to readers.

5. You need a story; companies and individuals can use free publicity. Writing for AS Not Seen on TV will help establish your credibility as a writer; build your reputations as a reliable source, and grow your network. All you have to do is contact the organization or individual that you’re interested in writing about, and let them know that want to write an article about them, their organization, or their event. If you do a good job and stay in touch, the relationship with the organization or individual will develop. Eventually, their contacts will become your contacts.

6. You will not be a volunteer forever. You are on the ground floor of a blog that will rank within the top ten blogs within the next two years. What this means is that even though you are volunteering as a writer for As Not Seen on TV now, you’ll get paid in the future. Here’s how it works. The more writers I have, the more stories can be posted. More stories will draw more traffic. More traffic gets the attention of advertisers. When they start paying, we’ll get paid.

Above are six reasons why you should volunteer to write one story a month for As Not Seen on TV. Interested persons should contact Marcie Hill, Editor, at editor@asnotseenontv.info.
