May 2009

I have heard a lot of comments about Facebook, but the one thing that is consistent – it is very entertaining.  I actually go on daily to check what my friend’s husband has to say; he is hilarious.  Then there are the very enlightening individuals.  Then there are the people who use Facebook for therapy.  This is cool, but what are they doing to correct the problems?  Oh, let me not forget the high levels of vanity and conceit.  Just lovely!

Here is my thing with Facebook.  Friends.  You have people who genuinely care about you.  Then there are people who want to market their businesses to you.  Lastly, there are the nosey bunch.  I’m sure there are other categories of people; these are just the ones I’ve found.

What are your thoughts?

Things can really get done when you have the right people in place.  I have an excellent graphic designer working with me.  I was referred to a cool t-shirt manufacturer.  Those are being done.  I pretty much have everything I need.  Oh, I do need a lawyer in my pocket for business, copyright and trademark advice.  I have to start working on those relationships.  Otherwise, all is well.  Woo hoo!

I feel powerful just knowing what a layer is in Photoshop and how to trim a clip in Premiere. Since I am a glutton for punishment, I ordered Teach Yourself Dreamweaver 8 Visually.  Although I am not looking to design website for my business, I am partnering with someone for that, it would be great to know the basics.  I know I can do it.  Right now I update my Shorty website which is very basic, but at least I can do it myself.  I would like to revamp my Shorty website.  I guess I’ll be my first project.

The Write Design Company

The Write Design Company

I have been working on revamping my business plan for my writing business, The Write Design Company.  I have business cards which are very nice.  I worked on my brochure and was quite pleased with the results.  I sent it to a counselor at The Women’s Business Development Center, and am awaiting feedback.  I am so excited.

When I looked at the previous brochure, I didn’t want to do half the stuff that was listed.  I am so glad I am in my creative glory!  Now, I am offering writing – journalism, blog posts and  comments, newsletter, web content, intranet content, copywriting, PR and Marketing messages.

My design services include blog and web design, logos, graphics and custom social media pages.  I am also going to offer photo storybooks and DVD slideshows.  Photography, powerpoint presentations and custom greeting cards are additional offerings.

I am so excited.

You can request DTV converter box coupons if you were smart enough (like me) to let them expire or have not requested them yet.  I put in my request and got them within 2 weeks.
