April 2009

This was sent to me today and I just wanted to share it with others.  Enjoy!

You’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.

   PHILIPPIANS 4:8 THE MESSAGE

WE MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for our minds and actions.  As long as we keep making excuses and blaming our family tree, our environment, past relationships with other people, and our circumstances, and attributing blame to God, Satan, anymore, or anything, we will never be truly free and emotionally healthy.  To a large extent, we can control our own destinies.

It’s not your circumstances that have you down; your thoughts about your circumstances have you down.  It is possible to be in one of the biggest battles for your life and still be filled with joy and peace and victory–if you simply learn how to choose the right thoughts.  Fill your mind with God’s Word.

I received a message from someone about an outstanding project.  While I know this project was supposed to be worked on a couple months ago, I was not responsible for initiating it, but I have to complete it.  Well, I don’t have to, but I am.  I am a woman of my word.  Well, I try to be anyway.

Here’s my thing.  The person that needs it done is expecting me to do everything.  That is not going to happen.  Because even though I care, I don’t care that much about “their”stuff.  I have many projects of my own that I have to complete.  I have gained a huge understanding of the value of time this past month and I cannot afford to lose that.  And I really cannot afford to allow other people to waste my time.

So, my dear lovelies, if you ever get the feeling that I don’t want to share my time.  Do not be offended.  My time is very valuable to me, and I choose how I spend it.

There are many opinions floating about the Factory Gentleman’s Club in Chicago’s Roseland Community. I read a few blogs and stories about Alderman Anthony Beale knowledge and approval of the club. And I have to admit that I, too, was about to jump on the bandwagon when I decided to request an interview with the Alderman. The two things I really wanted to know were:

1. Why did he approve the club?

2. How do he think the club will impact the community? Following is the information gathered from my conversation with Alderman Anthony Beale earlier today.

  • Ald. Beale is NOT in favor of The Factory Gentleman’s Club. In fact, Chicago’s Department of Zoning denied approval of the club. The club was actually approved by the Zoning Board of Appeal, an independent body of decision makers outside the Department of Zoning. Ald. Beale said that he and over 300 residents had a full hearing which lasted approximately six hours to oppose the club at the Zoning Board hearing. The Supreme Court has a ruling that you have to find somewhere for an establishment to go.
  • Ald. Beale says that the lack of patronage is the only way to combat the presence of this business. They will only survive “if people spend their money.”
  • As for the impact on the community, Ald. Beale said, “We’ll just have to wait and see. A lot of residents are upset about it. I’m still upset about it.” If we are so upset and don’t spend our money, they’ll eventually have to leave.

Now you know why The Factory Gentleman’s Club exists in the Roseland community along with Alderman Beale’s feelings about the club.

I don’t know if I’m way extreme in my writing, but it takes quite a while for me to write my stories.  I have to draft, write, draft, edit, write some more… you get the picture.

I’m also in my early stages of photo and video editing.  Learning this stuff is way time consuming.  However, I do know that once I get it, time will be reduced.  In the meantime, I still have to say that creativity is very time consuming.

While tripping on the fact that I forgot to share with readers that kids under 10 years old eat free at The Flat Top Grill on Mondays, I just happened to do a little research about other restaurants that offer young’uns free meals.  This is great information in this current economy.  You don’t have to give up all the extras just because your cash is not flowing the way it used to.  Call ahead to make sure that this information is correct.  Enjoy!

I am excited to share that I completed two projects with Adobe Photoshop Elements.  One was my business card for The Write Design Company, my writing business.  The other success was a photo project for the newest blog post for AS NOT SEEN ON TV that was written by volunteer Writer, Missie Hahn.

I have been using the Teach Yourself Visually book to learn.  And what wasn’t in the book, I found it online.  There are training videos on YouTube.  I am excited.  Know what this means, as soon as I get really good at this, my professional worth will increase by at least 25,000 per year.

Now, I have to bond with Premiere like I have been with Elements.  I’m going to get good at this too.  More for personal growth than from financial gain.  However, I’m not going to turn down the money that comes along with it.  I’m so excited.
